Twentieth Century Fox is suing Warner Bros., claiming it owns the rights to Watchmen (rights which it apparently bought in the 1980s and failed to use) and seeking an injunction to stop production of the film. At the moment, there's no reason to doubt the film will come out on time. Fox is most likely just looking to squeeze some cash out of Warner, like producer Robert Clark did over disputed rights to Warner's Dukes of Hazzard film. [...]

Interesting new interface designs ..."Good user interfaces are crucial for good user experience. It doesn’t matter how good a technology is — if we, designers, don’t manage to make user interface as intuitive and attractive as possible, the technology will hardly reach a breakthrough. To gain the interest in a new product or technology, users need to understand its advantages or find themselves impressed or involved. And here is where creative ideas and unusual interface approaches become important. Innovative doesn’t mean usable [...]

Features vs. simplicity ..."Everyone wants simplicity. The same desires are there whether the device be a new cellphone or a shop tool, the dashboard of an automobile or the choices while shopping in a store. “Why can’t my technology be as easy to use as my garage door opener?” asks one paper on the topic: “one button and it opens or shuts the door. Simple, elegant.”The cry has been picked up by everyday people, newspaper reviewers and professionals alike. But if [...]

Klaus Thymann's book "Hybrids" explores incongruous themes - including (among others) gay rodeo, underground garden, artificial beach, and religious theme park. The photographs are of The Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Florida. The juxtaposition of the scene from the crucifixion and the tourists checking their photos raises a number of emotions. I'm not quite sure what to think of the park. Where is the line between evangelism/ministry and entertainment? Should there be a line at all?

Crass king Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, is unveiling a new program called Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy, which will be distributed solely by Google. That's right, I said Google. The show will air online only, starting in September. Google will use AdSense to draw an audience by targeting Web sites with MacFarlane's core audience: the much coveted and fragmented man-child demographic. A company that shares an interest in the young male market, Burger King, [...]

Just a quick update on the new art group, Epoch. Since Epoch was founded, just 3 days ago, a massive 46 members have joined, with a lot of potential amongst them. With this growth in mind, I have updated the forums software. So far, we have two applications, but unfortunately I cannot judge them on my own, so that means I'll be needing some help. I've promoted 3 members to admin status, but I still require one more. This place will [...]

This new Burger King ad falls flat by failing to address why a cow would be mad at someone for not killing and eating it. That's the kind of relationship I'd want broken if I were the cow. But then, what this guy does with livestock in his private life is none of our business. Of greater concern is whether or not a chicken sandwich that provokes such a violent response in cattle is worth the effort—i.e., [...]

We here at abduzeedo love NoPattern-mastermind Chuck Anderson. We published a great interview and mentioned him in several articles. He just updated his website with great new stuff you wont miss. Chuck Anderson uses a lot of awesome light-effects, i especially like the AMP and the PUMA ad. But he's a great illustrator too, you can see that in his t-shirt design for Vans of the wall. If you like that kind of style he uses, you should read the tutorial [...]

(With apologies to all you Germans out there.)Well, here we are approaching the end of this series. It doesn't seem as though I've been posting fonts more than twice a month, but I must have speeded up somewhere along the line as I shouldn't be reaching Z until November. Maybe X will stop me in my tracks: we'll just have to wait and see. But here we are at V, and first up is Van Dijck - which, you may be [...]
